The annual Toys for Joy Community Outreach Event brought more than toys and joy to 8,000
children and their families Saturday, December 13.
In spite of cloudy skies and cool temperature, the daylong festivities at King/Chavez School on 31st
Street in Barrio Logan ministered to the entire community in partnership with 14 area churches.
The thousands of recipients formed a line around a city block that lasted eight hours.
Other numbers were huge too: 6,000 toys; 20,000 gifts for teens; 8 pallets of hygiene products;
100,000 articles of clothing; 1,000 pounds of donated chicken. Approximately 1,110 volunteers
manned the toy room; did crowd control; performed and entertained; or served in the food court,
and the the Kid Zone, which had three air jumps, a toy table, and a clown zone.
